Tony Gumbiner is a British lawyer, financier, and entrepreneur whose career has spanned the legal, financial, real estate, and energy sectors.

Born and educated in England, Gumbiner qualified as an English lawyer achieving first-class honors at the College of Law.

His early commitment to Israel led him to volunteer for the Israeli army during the Six-Day War in 1967.

In 1970, Gumbiner founded a London law firm specializing in corporate restructuring. His law practice evolved over the next 10 years into a London-based merchant bank which acquired control of Hallwood, an English public company.

In 1980, Gumbiner relocated to the United States, where he pioneered the use of deeply discounted rights offerings to restructure distressed public companies. Through Hallwood, he executed major restructurings and, with the backing of institutional investors in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the US and Japan, gained control of First Pennsylvania Mortgage Trust, UMET Trust (Los Angeles), Institutional Investors Trust (New York), and Chase Manhattan Realty Trust (Cleveland). In 1984, Hallwood was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Gumbiner’s strategic pivot to the energy sector began with the formation of Hallwood Energy Corporation. In 1990 it became the 20th largest independent oil and gas producer in the U.S. with pioneering shale gas operations in the Permian Basin.

In parallel with his professional accomplishments, Gumbiner competed successfully in over 100 offshore powerboat races winning the Italian and European Offshore Championships in 1987.

Tony Gumbiner resides in Monte Carlo with his wife, Mylène. He has three children and remains active in both business and philanthropic circles.
